(Brooklyn Eagle obit. below suggests a death date in Sept 1900) He m. Debroh Adelia Vernon (b. 24 September 1848, d. 27 August 1891, L.I., NY, bur. Brookville Cem.) 9 November 1871. They had nine children, three of which died in infancy and the youngest, Peter^8 just one month before his mother died.

Brooklyn Eagle 25 Sept 1900, page 11. Death of Peter Van Wicklen. Oyster Bay, L.I., September 24 - The death of Peter Van Wicklen occurred at Jones' Institute last Saturday. He was the son of Peter Van Wicklen who was at one time collector of the town. The deceased had also held the same position. He was honest and straightforward and leaves many friends. The interment was at Brookville Cemetery.

1920 US Census for Oyster Bay, Nassau, NY lists Frank W. Layton, 61, foreman (estate), with wife Rosala, 48, b. NY, and Frank's aunt, Rebecca Remsen, 86, widow. All are b. NY with parents b. NY. (Very close by is the estate of Nelson Doubleday, so presumably Frank works at this estate.)
